Patient Assistance Programs

Research Study

Funded by the California HealthCare Foundation, Medpin worked with faculty from the University of California at Berkeley Haas School of Business and the University of California at San Francisco School of Pharmacy to study pharmaceutical companies' patient assistance programs (PAPs).  This study examined the use and assessment of these programs by key staff at safety net clinics in California and four other states: Texas, Florida, Oregon, and Illinois.  Preliminary study findings have been presented at meetings of the National Conference of State Legislatures, the Center for Business Intelligence Annual Conference on Patient Assistance Programs, and California Health Advocates (a nonprofit that supports the work of California's Health Insurance Counseling and Advocacy Program (HICAP) projects).

The study's findings were published in the April 1, 2005 edition of the American Journal of Health-System Pharmacy and are available free online until September 30, 2005.
