Patient Assistance Program Related Activities

The Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America (PhRMA) reports that in 2003, programs supported by PhRMA members helped 6.2 million underinsured or uninsured patients to obtain more than 17.8 million prescriptions, up from 2.4 million patients and 8 million prescriptions in 2000. These programs, often called PAPs, are of particular interest to safety net providers serving large numbers of low-income, uninsured patients most likely to qualify for this voluntary assistance.

In 2004-5, PhRMA has worked with states such as Georgia, New Mexico, Wisconsin, and California to integrate its PAP-related information more closely with state programs.
